I use my Raspberry Pi 4 4GB as a NAS. Rather than running OMV, it's just running plain Raspberry Pi OS Lite (i.e. the one without all the superfluous GUI stuff, kiddy apps etc) and serving files over the network using the Samba file server. It works fine, and performance is respectable; with my files on a RAID 1 enclosure connected over USB3 ...A Raspberry Pi is a low-powered device that draws only a fraction of power used by an actual NAS, and it’s also much cheaper. You lose some performance when you use a Raspberry Pi, but unless you want to stream very large files and want to stack up your hard drives in a raid configuration, the Raspberry Pi should work just fine.
